Rise In L-O-V-E Spotlight Series Part 1

Interview with Jeraldine Chan, co-founder and lead KOL for the Facebook Live channel, My BKK Shop.

The “Rise In Love” collection is a wearable statement for the modern woman to celebrate other women, to embody the equality they wish to see in the world, to stand up for one another by first standing up for themselves, by being the first to value their worth. Each necklace in this collection spells out “L-O-V-E” in combination of rose gold or white gold with diamonds as an invitation for one to wear her love for herself loud, proud and chic. It’s a brilliant reminder for her to rise in her power.

“As a woman, it’s my job to think deeper about how I can use my strengths to my advantage, and where there are weaknesses, what can I learn from them? How can I improve? I believe this is how we can make this world a better place."

In Part 1 of this three-part series, we speak with Jeraldine Chan, co-founder and lead KOL for the Facebook Live channel, My BKK Shop.
1. Can you introduce yourself?
I’m known as J or Queen J on my social media. I am a single mum with two lovely daughters. I’m also a full-time Facebook Live influencer at My BKK Shop. I love beautiful things, and I believe in rewarding myself and the people around me with them. My work is my passion as I see it as an avenue to positively influence the people who watch me on my live stream. People have told me that I’m working too hard, but I don’t mind it at all. When you’re living the life that you love, the sacrifices don’t seem to matter so much.

2. What does it mean to love and value yourself? In other words, how do you “Rise In Love” with yourself?
I do things that I love and value, things I have passion for. I don’t believing in forcing yourself to do things that you don't like to do that go against your values. Life is short. Do what makes you happy.

3. Do you have a daily or go-to self-care ritual/practice to share? Perhaps something you do that helps you to stand in your power?

I spend about two hours to do my make-up and hair. I’ve always believed that how you present yourself is a form of respect — to the people you are going to meet, and to yourself. Even if I don't feel like wearing a too much make-up, I always make sure I am presentable. I plan my daily outfits one week in advance.

4. In your own way, how do you try to make a difference — at work or in your personal life — in advocating gender equity for women?

In the world we’re living in now, women are taking on and excelling in roles that were once assigned almost exclusively to men, and achieving things only men were known to achieve. Overcoming gender stereotype requires all of us to think about the roles we are playing at home and at work. Man or woman, how can we do better? Men and women function differently — both with their own merits. As a woman, it’s my job to think deeper about how I can use my strengths to my advantage, and where there are weaknesses, what can I learn from them? How can I improve? I believe this is how we can make this world a better place.

5. How will you wear your “Rise In Love” necklace / what do you see yourself wearing it with?

It’s not unusual to see women matching the style of their jewellery with the style of their outfit. For example, dainty jewellery with a pretty dress, edgy pieces with an off-duty outfit. It’s also quite common for women to wear black or dark colours so that the jewellery can stand out. Personally, I like to mix things up and “mismatch” my outfits and jewellery to create contrast. So, I’d wear my "Rise In Love" necklace with a bright, colourful dress.

6. What is your current power mantra?

"Good things must wait.”

For this series, ByCanary created and launched the “Rise In Love” collection in support of Breast Cancer Foundation.
